As our climate changes and weather becomes unfamiliar we tell each other frightening stories; stories of sins come to haunt us. We tell stories conjuring decay and death. We tell stories of sudden reckonings and a bleak future. Schadenfreude overcomes us as beach houses crumble into the surf. We obsessively take measurements to reassure ourselves that dark things are coming to pass. We tell ghost stories and shiver while looking at each other for confirmation across our collective campfire of illuminated screens.
